30 Things a Guy Must Have Achieved by Age 30
Start something – anything – a company, a trend, a movement or a war.- Learn a new language, how to swim, how to cook or all of the above and more. This will keep your mind in a very good shape to tackle challenges more effectively.
- Travel out of your country. Visit as many other countries as possible.
- Read 30 good books. Now I don’t mean just any physics or management textbook you read to pass an exam; I mean books in the categories of personal development, self-helps, motivational/inspirational and of course, spirituality.
- Have a second degree or a third. I’m guilty of this… thank God I’m not yet 30.
- Attain financial stability. Whether you will be getting a job or starting your own business, you should have a stable income by now.
- Have a crystal clear purpose in life. Your goals should well-spelt out and clear. More importantly, you should be gradually gravitating towards them.
- Get married. I’m a guy too and I know the feelings the thought of getting married evokes. The truth is, sooner or later, you’ll have to do it. I’m preaching to myself now.
- Make your first million or billion. I’m not asking you to steal. You are young and energetic. I hope you don’t think you will get physically stronger with age? Tap into the resources of your youthfulness and create wealth.
- Buy your first car. Just saying. I know no one needs to be told this of course. Who likes okada helmet?
- Write a book. Three decades is a lot of time to have acquired experiences, expertise or have discovered something worth writing about. If you don’t have any of these, write a fiction – they actually sell more! But don’t sue me if your work does not sell.
- Have a passive income. Of course you want to be rich, but if you have to be there (physically) to make money, you can never be truly financially free. To be wealthy, you have to be able to make money while you sleep.
- Create the caveman experience. Go hunting, fishing or bush camping; just make sure it’s in a real African rain forest.
- Donate some blood. You won’t die doing it, yet you can save lives. You might want to donate some before this year ends, to start with.
- Have a stable relationship with God.
- Fail a couple of times. “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein.
- Find true love. I know the subject of love is pretty controversial; but whether you fall into it, walk into it or just find yourself in it, just be genuinely in love with someone. I guess it’ll make you live longer if you don’t get your heart broken in the process.
- Move out of your parents’ house. As if you should be told at 30.
- Get involved with a sport. Soccer, bodybuilding, hockey or any sport that interests you. Now, I’m not talking about becoming a fan of a football club. I mean getting physically involved in the game you choose. It will add to your life ultimately.
- Give to charity. Have an orphanage you visit regularly. Reach out to the less privileged. Pay someone’s school fees or sponsor someone’s dream.
- Discover yourself; master your strengths and your weaknesses. People, events and trends shouldn’t dictate your life anymore. You should be responsible for your own emotions and actions.
- Become a father. Have your first child or second. Enjoy being called “dad”.
- Be known for something – anything. Just be exceptional at it.
- Become a landlord, start your first house.
- Stop smoking, drinking, womanizing and other self-destructive patterns. You should be laying good examples and not leading a gang.
- Let go of regrets of the 20s and focus on the future.
- Have quality relationships. Surround yourself with positive people who makes you laugh, challenges you to grow, supports your dreams and tells you the truth.
- Mentor some kids. Find young people you can empower. Show them direction, help them emotionally and listen to them. Do it genuinely. You will be changing the world!
- Plant a tree.
- Have sex with 30 women. Ok, now, that was a joke. I hope you are not taking it seriously.
As much as I would love you to consider some items on the list importantly, I really don’t think you should take all of them too seriously. I’m already 28 and I’ve not attained about half of the list! You might want to consider having your personal list if this doesn’t work for you, whether you are 30 or older.
